Content Ideas
That Get DMs

9 battle-tested post templates proven to turn scrollers into conversations. Built for contractors, trades, and service pros who want inbound leads without cold outreach.

How to use this: Pick 2–3 templates, customize the examples for your trade, post 3–4× per week. Track which ones get DMs and double down.

9 Proven Post Templates

1

The "Before/After Reality Check"

Hook: "You wouldn't believe what we found behind this wall…"

EXAMPLE FOR PLUMBERS

Found this 30-year-old DIY pipe job today. Customer had no water pressure for months. 2 hours later: fixed properly, full pressure back, zero leaks. Sometimes the cheap fix costs more.

Why it works: Shows expertise, creates curiosity, demonstrates value. People DM asking "do I have this problem too?"

2

The "3 Mistakes" Warning

Hook: "3 mistakes I see homeowners make every week…"

EXAMPLE FOR ROOFERS

1. Power washing shingles (strips the granules). 2. Waiting until you see a leak (damage is already done). 3. Going with the cheapest bid (you'll pay twice). Seen all 3 this month. Don't be #3.

Why it works: Positions you as the expert, creates fear of missing out, educates. DMs: "Am I making mistake #2?"

3

The "Cost Breakdown" Transparency

Hook: "Here's exactly why your quote is $4,200…"

EXAMPLE FOR HVAC

Labor: $1,800. Equipment: $1,900. Permits & disposal: $300. Warranty & overhead: $200. I could save you $400 with a no-name unit, but it'll cost you $2K in 3 years. Your call.

Why it works: Builds massive trust, eliminates price shoppers, shows integrity. DMs: "Can you quote my job?"

4

The "Myth Buster" Take

Hook: "Stop believing this lie about [your trade]…"

EXAMPLE FOR ELECTRICIANS

Myth: "Breakers trip because they're old." Truth: 80% of tripping breakers are overloaded circuits or faulty appliances. Replacing the breaker won't fix it. We test the whole circuit first.

Why it works: Challenges beliefs, shows deep knowledge, creates engagement. DMs: "Is my breaker doing this?"

5

The "Time-Lapse Process" Flex

Hook: "8 hours of work in 30 seconds…"

EXAMPLE FOR CONCRETE

Poured this 600sqft driveway today. Watch the crew work: prep, rebar, pour, finish. No shortcuts. No puddles next week. This is why we book 6 weeks out.

Why it works: Visual proof, shows professionalism, implies demand. DMs: "Are you booking for March?"

6

The "Customer Question" Reply

Hook: "Customer asked me yesterday: 'Should I really…?'"

EXAMPLE FOR LANDSCAPING

"Should I really water new sod every day?" Yes. For 14 days straight. Skip day 3 and you just burned $2K. I text my clients daily reminders because I hate redoing jobs I already did right.

Why it works: Feels personal, shows you care, answers real objections. DMs: "I need sod, what's your process?"

7

The "Tool/Trick" Reveal

Hook: "This $80 tool saves me 3 hours per job…"

EXAMPLE FOR FLOORING

This laser measurer replaced my tape. Measures a 20x30 room in 10 seconds, sends it to my phone, auto-calculates waste. Faster quote = I can take on 2 more jobs/week. Worth every penny.

Why it works: Shows innovation, implies efficiency, builds curiosity. DMs: "Do you use this on all your jobs?"

8

The "Emergency Call" Story

Hook: "Got the call at 9pm on a Sunday…"

EXAMPLE FOR GARAGE DOORS

Car stuck inside. Garage door snapped. They had a 6am flight. I was there in 40 mins. Had it running by 10:15pm. Not every company answers Sunday nights. I do, because emergencies don't check calendars.

Why it works: Shows reliability, humanizes you, creates emotional connection. DMs: "Do you service my area?"

9

The "One Thing" Daily Tip

Hook: "If you do ONE thing this month, do this…"

EXAMPLE FOR GUTTER CLEANING

Clean your downspouts before the first freeze. One frozen clog = cracked foundation, $8K repair. Takes 20 mins with a hose. Or call me, I'll do it for $150 and check your whole system.

Why it works: Actionable, creates urgency, soft service offer. DMs: "Can you come check mine?"

DM Trigger Checklist

Use this before you post. 4+ checked = high DM potential.

  • Clear Curiosity Gap

Does the hook make them need to know more?

  • Shows Proof, Not Claims

Photo, time, number, specific result included?

  • Educates First

Did you teach them something valuable?

  • Implies Risk or Loss

What happens if they don't act/know this?

  • Uses "You" Language

Talking to them, not about yourself?

  • Specific to Your Market

Could only a local pro post this?

  • Easy Next Step

Is it obvious how to DM you without asking?

  • Posted When They're Online

6–8am or 6–9pm local time for homeowners?
